Statistician/ Data Scientist at Udaiti Foundation: Apply Now!

We are seeking a skilled Statistician / Data Scientist with a passion for women’s economic empowerment. The candidate will play a pivotal role in developing a comprehensive Women’s Economic Empowerment Index (WEE Index) for a specific Indian state, along with a detailed district report card. This index aims to monitor progress and initiate targeted action to enhance women’s economic status at state and district levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct a comprehensive review of existing WEE scorecards/indices and data sources.
  2. Develop the theoretical framework for the WEE index at state and district levels, incorporating secondary research findings.
  3. Identify and document key indicators, considering their periodicity, quality, representativeness, and data source.
  4. Guide the team in data collection and compilation for the identified indicators.
  5. Utilize statistical techniques to construct the index, including normalization, weighting, and score aggregation.
  6. Collaborate with state planning departments to refine the index framework and gather inputs.
  7. Prepare and present the final WEE Index, supporting the development of an interactive dashboard.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master’s) in Statistics, Economics, Gender Studies, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in developing indices and scorecards using statistical methods, particularly in the context of women’s economic empowerment or entrepreneurship development.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in handling government datasets (e.g., NSSO, PLFS) in various sectors.
  • Expertise in establishing and managing Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) systems.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and research aptitude.

Contract Duration: 3 months.

Deliverables:

  1. Presentation on secondary research, WEE Index Framework, indicators, and data sources (within 3 weeks).
  2. Draft index with sub-indices, methodology, findings, recommendations, and District Report Cards indicators (within 7 weeks).
  3. Final presentation on WEE Index and District Report Cards.
